Plastic Bottle Collection

Gardens Reclaimed was born from repurposing reclaimed materials for use in the garden in one way or another.  There were two goals here: 1) to make do without spending money when possible and 2) to give items an extended or second life.

We have an amazing source for 5 gallon buckets in our local refillery, Refill Madness, in Midtown Sacramento.  They have all the liquid soaps, detergents and shampoos/conditioners as well as other zero waste solutions.  Well, this right here, this extended life of the bucket, its next adventure from soap reservoir, is to either be a bucket for collecting food scraps to then be composted OR to be turned into Sub-Irrigated Planters (SIPs).  In making these planters I aim to grow my own growing capacity but also to provide others with limited space the ability to grow a tomato plant or a few other vegetables if they'd like.  AND to do it with reclaimed materials.  Ingenuity comes in utilizing your resources and helping the planet too.

You can drop your bottles size from 8 ounces to 1 gallon, at our Saturday Compost Drop Site from 9am-1:30pm on Saturdays at the corner of 18th Ave & 69th St in the city of Sacramento.

We will also be at FOOD TRUCK MANIA at Tahoe Park on August 27th and collecting bottles for this project there.

New life as a food scrap collection bucket

A look at the inside of a SIP build.

Large detergent or water bottles all work for the water reservoir.  Repurpose what is available.
